Frequently Ask Questions
How do I know if I (or my child) need orthodontic treatment?
Common signs include crowded teeth, mouth breathing, thumb sucking, difficulty chewing, or jaw misalignment. We also evaluate airway and facial development, not just straight teeth.
Are clear aligners as effective as braces?
For many cases, yes. Clear aligners can be very effective, especially for mild to moderate alignment issues. More complex cases may benefit from braces or a combination approach.
I’ve been told to “wait and see” before getting orthodontic treatment—is that okay?
In some cases, waiting is appropriate. However, early signs of airway or developmental issues are often easier to address sooner rather than later. We help you understand when to act and why.
Is crowding in baby teeth normal?
Mild spacing is ideal in baby teeth, so crowding isn’t typically considered normal. It can be an early sign that there may not be enough room for adult teeth or that jaw development may need support. An early evaluation can help determine if monitoring or treatment is recommended.
When is it best to start my child in orthodontic treatment?
The American Academy of Orthodontics recommends an evaluation around age 7, but in some cases especially with habits like mouth breathing or early crowding, treatment with appliances like Myobrace can begin as early as age 4. Early guidance helps support proper growth and can reduce the need for more extensive treatment later.
